If you want it back in cash why didn't you pay with cash in the first place?

Main Post:

This is becoming increasingly more common for some reason. People will pay with a debit card, come back to return things, then all off a sudden they want cash back.

I get that debit is connected directly to the bank and most places offer cash back if you're paying. But it's very fucking annoying sometimes because WE ARE NOT A BANK. We don't always have enough cash, even for paying customers to give change.

And these people have the audacity to be like "Oh, but I paid debit. You're supposed to give back cash." Lol no, that's just a suggestion. Not a requirement. We actually get in trouble if we don't give the money back the way you initally paid.

...oh and by the way: these people are wanting cash back for $100+ returns. On multiple transactions. It adds up, people.

Anyway, rant over.

Top Comment: We used to have a lady running some kind of scam or something. She'd pay for expensive items with a check, and then immediately return it saying her husband got the wrong stuff. Since before our system only returned to cards if that's the card that was originally used, using a check meant she got it all back in cash. She's got an alert on her account for no returns now.

"Germans want to pay everything in cash"

Main Post:

My colleague told me that due to the security and privacy aspects, if Germans can, they will pay everything in cash. Is this true? When it comes to buying things online, what do you prefer to pay with? What will you never pay with?

Top Comment:

Just because foreigners sometimes misunderstand this: That idea (which is not quite up to date any more) refers to transactions where we're actually physically present to make payment in person.

People here have paid rent, bills, received salaries and so on using bank transfer and direct debit for many decades, way before online banking.

I’ve been using my Discover account for years on my online sports betting website.. now as of last week they want their piece of the gambling pie!! There’s no reason why to charge just for a “gambling website “ !!

Top Comment: Gambling sites are often treated as cash advances which makes sense considering that's pretty much exactly what it is
